Amara Raja Batteries Ltd.
Amara Raja is a leading Indian battery manufacturer making significant strides into the EV battery space. Known historically for its automotive lead-acid batteries (Amaron brand), Amara Raja has leveraged its manufacturing excellence to diversify into lithium-ion technology. The company set up India’s first lithium-ion assembly pilot plant and established Amara Raja Power Systems to handle lithium cell development and battery pack integration. It focuses on battery packs for e-mobility (two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and stationary storage) and has announced plans to build large-scale lithium cell manufacturing in India. Headquartered in Tirupati, Amara Raja prides itself on quality (it introduced the first Valve-Regulated Lead Acid batteries in India under strict quality norms) and it carries that culture to new chemistries. With strong R&D collaborations (both domestic and international) and government support, Amara Raja is poised to become a key supplier of “Made in India” EV batteries, contributing to the country’s e-mobility mission.
EnerSys
EnerSys is a global leader in stored energy solutions, manufacturing batteries for industrial, motive power, and energy storage applications. Founded in 1999, EnerSys is known for its lead-acid and lithium-ion battery systems, serving markets like material handling, aerospace, and EV charging infrastructure. In the EV space, EnerSys produces lithium-ion battery packs for forklifts, AGVs, and specialty vehicles, offering drop-in solutions with integrated BMS for high efficiency and low maintenance. The company operates over 30 manufacturing facilities worldwide and has a strong presence in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. EnerSys’ lithium solutions emphasize durability and fast charging, certified to UL and IEC standards. With a focus on sustainability, EnerSys also provides battery recycling services. Its extensive experience and global network make it a reliable partner for industrial electrification and energy storage.
Li-Cycle Corp.
Li-Cycle is a leading lithium-ion battery recycling company with operations across North America and expanding globally. Founded in 2016 in Canada, Li-Cycle has developed a proprietary hydrometallurgical recycling process that can recover up to 95% of critical battery materials (including lithium, cobalt, nickel, and copper) from spent batteries and manufacturing scrap. The company’s approach involves a two-step “Spoke & Hub” system: at regional Spoke facilities, batteries are shredded and intermediate products (“black mass” and mixed metals) are produced; these are then sent to a central Hub facility where chemical processing separates and refines the materials into battery-grade lithium carbonate, nickel sulfate, cobalt sulfate, and copper. Li-Cycle operates multiple Spokes in the U.S., Canada, and Europe to efficiently collect and preprocess batteries, and is building a large Hub in Rochester, NY to serve as one of the first substantial battery-grade material recycling plants in North America. The company has partnerships with major battery and automotive players (such as Ultium Cells, Mercedes-Benz, etc.) to handle recycling for production scrap and end-of-life packs. Li-Cycle’s recycled materials can be reintroduced into new battery supply chains, supporting circularity. Now a NYSE-listed company, Li-Cycle is scaling up to meet the exponential growth in battery waste, providing an environmentally friendly solution to manage battery end-of-life and a domestic source of critical materials for new battery production.
Northvolt AB
Northvolt is a leading European battery manufacturer focused on building sustainable lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage. Founded in 2016, Northvolt aims to produce the world’s greenest batteries, leveraging renewable energy and recycled materials in its production processes. The company operates one of Europe’s largest gigafactories, Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden, with plans for additional factories in Germany and Canada. Northvolt produces high-performance NMC and LFP cells tailored for automotive and industrial applications, with partnerships including Volkswagen, BMW, and Scania. Its vertically integrated approach covers cell design, manufacturing, and recycling, ensuring a closed-loop supply chain. Northvolt’s batteries are designed for high energy density, safety, and long cycle life, and the company has secured billions in funding to scale production to 150 GWh annually by 2030. With a strong emphasis on R&D and sustainability, Northvolt is a cornerstone of Europe’s push for battery independence and decarbonized mobility.
